Rooted in Resilience: Why CSAs Matter Now More Than Ever

In an era of shifting policies and growing uncertainty, community-supported agriculture offers a grounded path forward.

At HENOSIS, we believe that how we grow and share food shapes the kind of future we create—together. That’s why we’ve built our systems around nature’s intelligence: circular, interdependent, and abundant.

Right now, the broader agricultural landscape is experiencing transition. Federal programs once designed to support local food systems and climate-smart farming are being restructured or reduced, creating uncertainty for many farmers. And as national food and safety regulations face widespread deregulation, consumers are asking deeper questions about where their food comes from—and how it’s grown.

In this moment, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs are more important than ever.

A Changing Landscape Calls for Local Solutions

Programs like the Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) and Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) were created to help small farmers feed local communities while building resilient supply chains. As these initiatives are paused or scaled back, farms that once relied on cost-sharing and technical support must adapt quickly.

We’ve also seen shifts in the Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities Program (PCSC)—a major USDA initiative to support regenerative practices. While payments to producers may continue, technical support for conservation and education has been significantly reduced.

As a Conservation Technician with Davidson Co. Soil & Water Conservation District, I’ve worked alongside farmers implementing erosion control, nutrient cycling, and biodiversity strategies. This type of support is essential—and increasingly dependent on local action, not federal infrastructure.

Regenerating Together: A Farm and Community Partnership

At HENOSIS, we’ve developed a closed-loop production model that turns agricultural byproducts into mushrooms, then back into compost to enrich future crops. But we don’t do it alone.

If you're looking for vegetables with your mushrooms, we’re proud to partner with fellow regenerative leaders like Bells Bend Farms and Delvin Farms, who share our values of ecological stewardship, soil health, and community nourishment. Together, we create a web of support that strengthens our food system from the ground up.

Our CSA is an extension of this philosophy.

Investing in Regeneration: Conservation, Community & CSA

This kind of regenerative impact doesn’t happen in isolation—it’s supported by both our community and conservation programs designed to reward ecological farming.

Two key USDA programs—EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program) and CSP (Conservation Stewardship Program)—help farms like ours implement and sustain best management practices (BMPs) that promote environmental health and long-term resilience.

EQIP offers funding and guidance for farms to adopt conservation practices that reduce erosion, improve soil fertility, and enhance water retention. Through EQIP, farmers can implement BMPs like:

  • Pollinator habitat planting to support bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects

  • Forest stand improvement and riparian buffer restoration to enhance biodiversity and protect waterways

  • Composting infrastructure and nutrient management systems that reduce waste and close the loop

CSP supports farms already practicing conservation by rewarding them for deepening those efforts. It’s ideal for operations like ours that are already using regenerative practices—but want to go further. CSP supports enhancements such as:

  • Agroforestry and silvopasture systems

  • Cover cropping and rotational grazing

  • Forest management for climate resilience

  • Wildlife-friendly fencing and erosion control projects

As a Conservation Technician, I work directly with farmers navigating these programs. I’ve seen how a pollinator strip or a restored forest edge can transform a farm—not only ecologically, but emotionally. It becomes a place where stewardship isn’t an add-on. It’s embedded in every choice.

These programs offer incredible potential—but they also depend on consistent funding and access. In uncertain times, the role of the community becomes more vital than ever.

What’s Included in Our CSA Membership:

This isn’t just a food subscription. It’s an invitation to be part of something bigger—a regenerative ecosystem that nourishes land, people, and purpose.

Building a Regenerative Future—Together

As policies shift and programs come and go, what remains constant is the power of community. Our farm, and our partnerships with Bells Bend and Delvin Farms, demonstrate how working together—across land and lineage—can create a food system that’s resilient, ethical, and alive.

CSAs are one way to invest in that vision.
When you join, you’re not only feeding yourself—you’re helping us all fruit the future we want to see.

Support clean food. Strengthen your connection. Regenerate the future.
